Game of Thrones: Grew on Amanda Peet, Husband’s Series Finale

Amanda Peet was fortunate to be present when her husband, David Benioff, created Game of Thrones. However, she didn’t notice the incredibleness right away.

Peet was not a fan of the show Game of Thrones at first. It eventually grew on her, and she avoided her husband when he was at home working.

She eventually became a fan of the show and even supported how it ended in season 8, despite widespread criticism.

Amanda Peet grew up watching ‘Game of Thrones.’

Peet revealed her initial thoughts on Game of Thrones in 2015, when the show was all the rage. It was not pretty.

During an appearance on Conan in January 2015, O’Brien questioned her about what she said when her husband first mentioned the show’s concept to her.

Peet knew she was going to get some boos from showgoers even before she answered the question. “I’m going to look so bad on this show,” she joked.

When Benioff told her about the plan, she admitted she didn’t like it. “Yes, I thought it was an awful idea. Terrible, “Peet stated.

O’Brien then pressed her on what she found so heinous. “Just silly,” she replied.

Peet compared the show to the popular Dungeons and Dragons, but said it was “real, with real people.”

The audience groaned in response to her remark, and she couldn’t hide her surprise. “I’m married to him,” she explained.

O’Brien, too, defended her, saying that if someone pitched him the same idea, he’d probably think something similar. He would change his mind after seeing the cast and the story in greater depth.

He then made a joke about himself and his show. “If someone approached me and said there’s going to be this guy with orange hair [who] dances around, it’s going to be a show… it’s terrible,” he wisecracked.

“But then you see it and it becomes a sensation,” he added, to which the audience erupted. Peet couldn’t stop herself from laughing or applauding.

The topic then turned to how much she enjoyed the show and avoided looking at Game of Thrones material her husband was working on that afternoon.

Amanda Peet defended the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale

Peet was obviously very close to the show’s creation, as she married one of the creators. But she was always aware that it was just a TV show.

As a result, she did not face the backlash that the show did when it ended the way it did.

Peet revealed her thoughts on the show’s end while speaking with Andy Cohen in June 2020. She stated that she “loved it” and maintained her stance nearly a year after the season finale aired.

She believed that people simply did not want to give up their favorite TV show, and that this was causing the backlash. “Perhaps I’m just too close to it, but I didn’t understand the backlash. It’s a television show, for God’s sake “She went on to say.

The couple, who married in September 2006 and have three children, have since collaborated on Netflix’s The Chair.

That was Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s first project after Game of Thrones concluded. Peet has a writing credit on the show as well.
