Despite his desire to entertain people, Fritz joined the United States Navy in 1969-1970. During his time in the Navy, he worked as a radio broadcaster. Fritz decided to pursue a career in radio after gaining experience in broadcasting. As a result, he worked as a DJ, music director, producer, and talk show host.

In 1980, he moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing a career in comedy. However, when he played a weather forecaster in a play, his friends and their bosses from NBC News approached him about a real job at the company. Fritz accepted the proposal and began working as a weather forecaster for NBC4. Along with his job as a weather forecaster for NBC4, he continued to work as a comedian.

He has been working at the comedy club ‘The Ice House’ since 2018, continuing his passion for making people laugh.

Fritz is known as an actor and writer for The Glimmer Man (1996), On The Fritz (1988), and What a Week (1988), in addition to being a weather forecaster and comedian (1990).
