Judi Dench, the star of Skyfall, has been in the film industry for nearly six decades. She is still working now, despite the fact that she is approaching her nineties. Dench and her husband Michael Williams only had one child, Finty Williams, because of her dedication to her career.
Williams, like her mother, is an actor. Mrs. Brown (1997), Ladies in Lavender (2004), and The Voice are just a few of the projects on which the two have collaborated (2015). Williams also portrayed Barbara Jackson in a performance of Pack of Lies, a part that Dench had previously shared with her late husband, Michael.
Given this, it’s no surprise that many people have compared Dench to her daughter. Williams, on the other hand, has been candid about how being compared to her mother “pisses her off immensely.”
Judi Dench’s daughter dislikes being compared to her mother
During an interview with The New York Times, Williams discussed how she was frequently compared to her famous mother.
“Being pre-judged irritates me… “I just don’t think it’s fair,” she explained.
“A lot of people say, ‘She’s not as good as her mother,’ which is true, but I can think of another 80 people who aren’t.”
People formed views about her before ever getting to know her, Williams continued, simply because she was Dench’s daughter. Following in Dench’s footsteps had been a “awful nightmare” for Williams, according to Dench.
“I believe that people compare and say things,” she explained. “I don’t think it’s kind when people do that; I think it makes things very tough, and I don’t believe it’s necessary.”
Judi Dench Was Almost Done Acting Because of Her Daughter Finty Williams
On September 24, 1972, Dench and her husband welcomed Williams into their home. The Victor & Abdul actress had planned to stop acting after becoming a mother so that she could be there for her baby.
Her husband, Michael, however, convinced her differently. And, while Williams admires her mother’s work ethic and has commended her on numerous occasions, she has also spoken openly about missing her mother as a child.
She told the Evening Standard, “I remember being really sad while my mum was in Thailand making a film.”
“During a thunderstorm, the nanny saw me screaming in a cupboard with our kittens.”
Williams also admitted that she didn’t have much of a social life because she spent so much time in Judi Dench’s dressing room. Despite being surrounded by her parents, both of whom were performers, Williams first refused to follow in their footsteps. Her dream was to be a ballet dancer. Dench and Michaels both sat her down and persuaded her to try something different, especially since her ballet career would be ended by the time she was 35.
Williams was later invited to apply for The Torch, a children’s television show. She went on to do a couple more plays after that and eventually caught the acting bug.
