Dylan McDermott And His Uncanny Resemblance to Dermot Mulroney!

Fans and celebrities have been confusing Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney’s identities for years. Not only do the performers have similar names, but they also have similar appearances.

Fans couldn’t identify who was who when McDermott portrayed Julia Roberts’ husband in Steel Magnolias and Mulroney played her love interest in My Best Friend’s Wedding. The fact that both actors were in American Horror Story, albeit in different seasons, doesn’t help matters.

To add to the confusion, Mulroney played Kit McDermott in the 1989 comedy-drama Staying Together.

We don’t know if the name was chosen on purpose, but the situation developed to the point where Saturday Night Live mocked the two performers’ perplexity. SNL’s episode host Jamie Foxx and cast members Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah played a game called ‘Dylan McDermott Or Dermot Mulroney?’ in season 38.

The game’s idea was simple: the competitor had to predict whether the photos given by game show host Bill Hader were of McDermott or Mulroney. Despite the fact that the game appeared to be simple, the contestants failed terribly.

‘LA to Vegas’ Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney

McDermott and Mulroney have put an end to the long-running joke after three decades in Hollywood. The pair first met in January 2018 on the Fox comedy series LA to Vegas, which was aptly titled ‘Two and a Half Pilots.’

McDermott’s character, Captain Dave, was pitted against Mulroney’s character, Captain Steve, a legendary international aircraft pilot. When Dave was called away from his duties, Steve took over Dave’s route. Mulroney told Us Weekly before the show aired that the partnership had been a long time coming.

“Isn’t it past time?!?” First and foremost, it is long overdue. It’s taken 30 years to get here! “It’s been setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup, setup

The actor went on to say that it was the ideal time for him and his impersonator to be on set together and that the audience would be in stitches.

Dermot Mulroney and Dylan McDermott Joining Forces

McDermott and Mulroney also spoke with Entertainment Tonight to tease the next small-screen partnership. At Fox’s winter Television Critics Association red carpet, the Practice actor spilled a few nuggets with correspondent Leanne Aguilera.

He stated that the concept was conceived by Lon Zimmet, the creator of LA to Vegas.

“He dialed my number and asked, ‘Would you mind Dermot joining us?’ ‘Are you kidding me?’ I exclaimed. “That would be fantastic,” the actor recalled.

Mulroney chatted with ET’s Katie Krause on the red carpet at the Hallmark Channel’s Winter Television Critics Association event (TCA). When he learned that McDermott had referred to him as a friend at the TCA, he expressed his gratitude.

“I was quite moved because we had only recently met. “I mean, it’s just ludicrous!” says the narrator. Mulroney smiled as he said.

And the actor laughed when he learned that McDermott had considered changing his name to “Mick Dermott” because of him. Even though he had never considered changing his name before, he believed it was a wonderful idea.

“I’d be approximately two years younger right now if I hadn’t spent so much time explaining, discussing, spelling, pronouncing, and apologizing for my name!” Mulroney stated.
