Don Cheadle: Brother Ended Up In A Super Bowl Commercial

Don Cheadle is well-known around the world for his role in one of the most profitable films of all time, Avengers: Endgame.

Well, Don Cheadle the actor admitted that his brother Colin was frequently mistaken for him.

So the advertising team at Michelob ULTRA Organic Seltzer thought it’d be a great premise for a fun and memorable gag while advertising their spot on a Superbowl game.

The commercial aired on Sunday, February 7, 2022, during the NFL championship game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since the announcement of the brotherly collaboration, the actor has spoken about why this ad film was so special to him, but we’ll get to that later. First, catch up on the actual ad if you haven’t already.

Why Did Don Cheadle Bring His Brother to the NFL Commercial?

Cheadle told ET that the ad was based on a play on what’s real and what’s fake, and how people are easily duped by what’s out there.
“And then it’s cool to be able to complete the circle by bringing on my brother, who has been mistaken for me numerous times,” he added.

Other than Cheadle’s brother, the commercial featured a number of celebrity look-alikes.

Serena Williams look-alike Olivia Griffian, Maluma look-alike James White, Lucy Liu look-alike Kimmy Suzuki, Usher look-alike Duane Avery, and Megan Fox look-alike Claudia Alende were among the cast members.

“It’s cool and the product is cool,” he said of why he decided to do the ad with Colin in the first place.

He also stated the obvious when he supported the product and stated that the Super Bowl was one of the most watched events in the world. In retrospect, it does appear to be a no-brainer.

Another reason the spot was intriguing was that it would be played during the Chiefs’ game.

“My team,” Cheadle said proudly before adding,

My brother is also in the spot, so combining all of those things and having my brother be a part of it is a win-win situation. It’s enormous.

This is not Colin Cheadle’s first appearance on screen.

In another interview with Forbes, the actor recalled how the Super Bowl commercial was not Colin’s first appearance on screen as his sibling.

“What’s great is that this is also sort of his return,” Cheadle said.

Don Cheadle was able to get Colin signed up for another film he did for HBO many moons ago called Rebound: The Legend of Earl “The Goat” Manigault.

The plot of said film required someone to play the actor’s younger self, who could also play basketball.

“‘Well, my brother!’ I exclaimed. And they said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to hire your brother…’ “he told the publication.

Cheadle also mentioned how Colin was not allowed on the set because he was family.

“‘Well, audition him,’ I said. Take my word for it, but don’t just take my word for it. ‘Try him out!'” “And he got the part on his own skills,” Cheadle said of his sibling’s casting process.
