Saffitz is a pastry chef who was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 16, 1986. She was a studious and intellectually ambitious child growing up, eventually enrolling at Harvard.
She was interested in a variety of activities after graduating from college, including writing, cooking, and an internship at the 9/11 Museum. Nothing, however, brought her as much joy as cooking meals.

Harris Mayer-Selinger, Saffitz’s spouse, is the chef-owner of Creamline, a restaurant affiliated with the Ronnybrook Farm dairy company. According to his LinkedIn profile, the chef opened the restaurant in the Greater New York City Area in October 2015.
He is also the president and creator of Hospitality Made Simple, a restaurant and hospitality management consulting organization.
The New Yorker graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2007. He worked as the chef de cuisine and sous chef at Five Points Restaurant and Hundred Acres after graduating.
