The 54-year-old had to deal with his parents’ divorce as well as financial issues. He described how he used to work at a retail shop, loading and unloading trucks. He also used to clean bathrooms, seat people in their proper seats, and answer phones at a local comedy club when he was only 15 years old.
He had no idea that the place he was working to meet at the end of the month would later be the beginning of his success. Seeing other people perform and laugh made him more confident in himself, and he later began performing at open mic evenings.

On December 28, 1987, he began performing stand-up comedy. But it wasn’t because he wanted to be a standup comedian; rather, it was the result of a dare he made with other coworkers. He elaborated:
“If I didn’t do an open mic night, I couldn’t cover the bet. I was running my mouth that I would do it. They bet me I wouldn’t.”
He eventually began opening for comedians such as George Carlin and Dennis Miller. He is now a well-known comedian. His main influences, though, are Jackie Gleason, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, John Belushi, and John Candy.
