When Ejiofor and the Ghanaian-Australian model Frances Aaternir participated in the premiere of The Martian in September 2015, their relationship became public.
They kept their relationship fairly covert, posting no glimpses of it on social media. Despite this, Ejiofor and his girlfriend kept their fans entertained by making public appearances from time to time.

On July 10, 1977, in London’s Forest Gate, Ejiofor was born to middle-class Nigerian parents. Arinze, his father, was a doctor, and Obiajulu, his mother, was a pharmacist.
He lost his father when he was 11 years old. After a wedding, he and his father were heading to Lagos when their automobile collided with a lorry. The accident killed his father and left a permanent scar on the actor’s forehead.
Ejiofor has a younger sister, Asher Zain, in addition to his mother. Zain is a CNN anchor stationed in New York City.
