Mohsen Fakhrizadeh Mahabadi was a nuclear physicist and scientist. He was suspected of overseeing Iran’s nuclear program.

Early Life

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh Mahabadi was born in Qom in 1958, and after the Iranian revolution in 1979, he joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Shahid Beheshti University awarded him a bachelor’s degree, and the University of Isfahan awarded him a doctorate. Since 1991, he has been a physics professor at Imam Hossein University.

Involvement of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in the Organization

  • The Green Salt Project and the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research were under Fakhrizadeh’s command.
  • Due to his ties to Iran’s nuclear program, the UN Security Council and the US both ordered Fakhrizadeh’s assets to be frozen in the mid-2000s.
  • In the early 2010s, he formed and managed the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Development, which conducted nuclear weapons development.
  • In 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated Fakhrizadeh as the project’s leader.
  • He aided in the development of COVID-19 diagnostic kits for use during the pandemic in 2020, according to Iranian officials.

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated.

Due to his purported role in Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program, Professor Fakhrizadeh was killed in a road ambush near Absard on November 27, 2020, with the knowledge and assistance of the Israeli government and the US administration. In a television interview in June 2021, former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen delivered Israel’s most direct admission of responsibility for the assassination yet. The assassination of the scientist was deemed an act of “state terror” by the Iranian authorities.
