Family and Work
She was found in 1989 by Montreal hairdresser and artistic director of Platine Coiffure, Edward Zaccharia while working at a McDonald’s restaurant. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, to a German mother, Linda, and a Pakistani father, Moin Ghauri. At the age of 17, she was named employee of the month at the restaurant.
She shifted the fashion industry’s mindset away from Nordic-looking models and toward more ethnic ones. She was so committed to her modeling career that she rejected her father’s objections.
Despite her parents’ objections, she participated in modeling premieres in Milan and Paris before relocating to New York in 1990. With her 5ft 10 inch height and lovely facial cut, she was noted by fashion critics and her runway walk was described as a “ball-bearing twist of her hips” by the New York Times.
With the amazing figure dimensions of 34-24-35, she rose to the top of the modeling world and broke down limits. In 1990, she provided the first significant cover photographs for Elle. Soon after, she was on the covers of numerous magazines and became the face of Chanel, Jil Sander, Christian Dior, Hermes, Lanvin, Valentino Couture, Versace, and Anne Klein.
Since then, Yasmine has dominated the modeling world, becoming the face of many leading agencies such as Harper’s Bazaar and British Vogue editorial. She signed a contract with Victoria’s Secret in 1992.
Yasmeen, who did not disclose her net worth, withdrew from her short-lived modeling career in 1997 after skipping a Yves Saint Laurent show at the last minute in 1996.
Married Life; Modeling Career Retired
When she became pregnant with her first child, Maia, the Canadian supermodel of South Asian ancestry officially retired from the runway in 1997. After the birth of her first child, Maia, she married lawyer, Ralph Bernstein. With her husband and children, she formed a joyful family.
The couple welcomed their second child, a son named Victor, after a few years of marriage.
Although many of her fellow models are still working in the profession, Yasmeen has kept out of the spotlight and has prioritized raising her family since the mid-nineties, following her wedding. After leaving the spotlight, she got a degree in business on the advice of her husband, a law company executive, and businessman.
