The two met years ago, and while Helen was initially uninterested in Pharrell, Pharrell was instantly taken with Helen. He elaborated on this in a 2014 interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which he stated,
It was only the beginning of their friendship that ultimately led to their wedding in 2013. The ceremony took place privately in October. Their wedding clothing drew some notice due to the duo’s departure from traditional wedding wear.
Helen wore a voluminous dark blue and green coat over a white gown. On the other side, Pharrell sported a red and green tartan tuxedo.

Prior to their marriage, the couple already had a son, Rocket Ayer Williams, born in 2008. While the name is distinctive, the reason behind naming him Rocket is even more so. Pharrell explained the inspiration for the name in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, explaining that they wanted to name their son after a “man-made machine that was intended to go up, intended to ascend.”
There is more than one reason for the name. Pharrell added in the same interview that it was metaphorically inspired by Stevie Wonder’s Rocket Love, Elton John’s Rocket Man, and Herbie Hancock’s Rocket.
The name will certainly live up to expectations, given Helen and Pharrell’s efforts to provide their baby with the greatest possible upbringing, which will eventually propel Rocket to a whole new level in his life. Signs of this can already be found in the fact that Pharrell’s little clone has dressed up as a royal since he was a baby.
