Maintaining a relationship is akin to playing with fire; if you’re not careful, you’ll get burned. Similarly, Great British Bake Off contestant Paul Hollywood took his wife, Alexandra, for granted and ultimately paid the price.
And, tired of Paul’s casual behavior, Alexandra decided it was time to take action of her own. So, let’s take a closer look at Alexandra Hollywood disappointing love life, as well as her most recent updates.
According to the wiki, Alexandra, 53, first met Paul, 52, in 1998 while working as a driving instructor at a five-star hotel in Cyprus where Paul, the brother of Chef Lee Hollywood, served as the head baker.
The couple couldn’t wait any longer to take the next step in their romance and married in 1998 before relocating to the United Kingdom. They had their first kid, Josh Hollywood, in October 2001, after a few years of marriage.
They had been married for 15 years when they hit a major cliffhanger in 2013 when Alexandra uncovered a stunning truth about her husband.
It was revealed that Paul had cheated Alexandra with his co-host of The American Baking Competition, Marcela Valladolid, who had previously referred to Paul as a “handsome devil.”
Alexandra then filed for divorce in July 2013, however, the claimed romance between Marcela and Paul ended quickly, causing Paul to realize his error and eventually ask for forgiveness from his wife. Concerning the guilt, Paul stated:
“I made a huge mistake and at the moment Alex and myself are working things through together. We are just going to take things one step at a time, but I still love her, that is ultimately what it is.”
Alexandra felt sympathetic to Paul and chose to ignore her husband’s misdeeds because she believed there was still hope for their marriage and decided to forgive Paul. She stated:
“You’ve just got to get on with life, haven’t you? I’m an eternal optimist, he’s an optimist. We’re having a good time.’
After their reconciliation, the couple got along nicely for four years. But Paul hadn’t learned from his previous blunders, as he was seen kissing Candice Brown, the ex-Bake Off winner, after the Pride of Britain Awards. Although it was later portrayed as a harmless kiss on the cheek, the betrayal was too much for Alexandra to bear, and she was not going to forgive Paul for his transgressions this time.
On November 20, 2017, the couple announced their separation in a joint statement, saying:
“It is with sadness that we have decided to separate. Our focus continues to be the happiness of our son, and we would ask the press and public to allow us privacy as a family during this very difficult time.”
And it appears that Paul’s assets will be significantly reduced following the divorce, since Alexandra may sue Paul for half of his ten million pound net worth. Solicitor Harold Walker told the Daily Mail about the divorce settlement:
“The starting point will be a 50:50 division of all assets. It doesn’t matter if his business interests and investments are in sole name or not. They are part of a portfolio built up within a marriage and so his spouse is entitled to share of the spoils.”
Alexandra has kept a quiet profile after the split and hasn’t published much on social media other than a tweet disclosing her recipe for Coq au Vin, but Paul is currently linked to a barmaid 30 years his junior after the two were photographed on a secret date at the London Hotel The Dorchester.
As of now, Alexandra and Paul haven’t revealed any other details regarding their divorce, and viewers may have to wait a while before the custody battle for their child begins.
