Akaza Personality

Akaza was a powerful, obstinate, and rash Demon who enjoyed fighting, particularly strong Demon Slayers. He looked down on those he thought were weak, but genuinely respected those he saw as strong, regardless of race. When he meets someone he considers to be strong, he demands to know their name and will not stop until he learns it; he remembers all the names he has committed to memory as a tribute to their strength.

Akaza had a deep psychological need to grow stronger, and he disliked his fellow Upper Ranks because he saw them as his competitors. He is particularly hostile to and even jealous of, the two Upper Rank above him, Doma and Kokushibo, lashing out at Doma and threatening to kill Kokushibo.

He stubbornly held on and continued to fight despite being beaten down and beheaded during his fight against Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka, despite not knowing why he wanted more power.

Hakuji had the same stubborn personality as a human, with a big heart and tenacity. He despised himself for living a life “full of empty words and promises,” and despised himself for prioritizing others over his own well-being.

Parts of Hakuji’s memories influenced Akaza’s decisions even after he became a Demon and lost his memories of his human life; he refuses to eat women despite the fact that doing so would make him stronger. [nine] His hatred for weak and cowardly people stemmed from a corruption of his human memories, in which a rivaling dojo poisoned his dojo’s well because they could never beat him.

After remembering his entire past and all of his regrets as a human and a demon, Akaza was shown to openly begin hating himself and all of his flaws during his life where he wasn’t there to save or protect everyone he loved and cared for, and later admitted that the person he really wanted to kill all along was himself.

Appearance

Akaza assumed the form of a muscular young man with skin that appears bright green-tinged white and is adorned with a pattern of thick blue lines that resembles the criminal tattoos he wore as a human.

The lines on his face curved from below his ears to over his temples, with another blue line running from the center of his hairline to the bridge of his nose, two more lines running around his neck, and three more branching off the lower one to his torso.

The center line ran straight down his chest to halfway down his stomach, and the other two branches branched off to the sides over each side of his chest to join the two other lines, with the same three-line pattern repeating around his waist.

Lines ran down the front of his shoulders, merging into two more that went around his biceps before continuing down to his wrists, where it could be seen that each of his fingers was also dark blue with an orange fingernail, and his toes shared this unusual appearance.

Akaza had short, bright pink hair that fluffed out around his head, inward-tilting yellow eyes with pink eyelashes and cracked blue sclera, and the kanji for “Upper-Rank Three” etched into his irises.

He was dressed simply, in a short, sleeveless dark purple-pink haori with a square pattern on his back that was cut off at his waist and left open to expose his chest. He wore a pair of baggy white pants below that, which he rolled to just below the knee and secured with a blue rope belt around his waist. Akaza prefers to walk around barefoot, but his ankles are adorned with a chain of large round pearls.

He had the same hair as Hakuji in his human days, only it was black instead of pink, and he had pale blue eyes with unusually colored pink eyelashes. He was also very muscular for a human, and he had three black criminal tattoos on each of his forearms.

He was dressed in a yukata that was dark blue-gray in color.

Akaza Power and Abilities

As the holder of the ‘Upper Rank 3’ title, Akaza wielded enormous power, having defeated Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, and several previous Hashira, according to his claims. Later, even when they were both Hashira-level swordsmen using their Demon Slayer Marks and Tanjiro had access to the “Transparent World,” he was able to fight and overwhelm both Tanjiro and Giyu.

If it hadn’t been for Akaza’s loss of will to fight, he would have killed both of them. He is capable of becoming the holder of the Upper Rank 3 title and the fourth-strongest Demon in the series without killing or eating any women, which would have severely hampered his development as a Demon.

Incredible Strength: Akaza possessed incredible physical strength, making him one of the series’ most powerful characters. His incredible strength has been demonstrated on several occasions, most notably when he punches or kicks hard enough to cause powerful shockwaves, and when he easily breaks Giyu’s sword in half with a single side punch despite the latter swinging his blade down. He can easily pierce through Kyojuro’s Solar Plexus and destroy the head of Upper Rank 2, Doma, with his arm.

When combined with his Blood Demon Art, he can punch a hole in the ground and make a crater. He can completely knock several grown men unconscious in a fight with nothing but his bare fists and legs when he was a human at the age of 11.

Even before he became a demon, at the age of 18, he was easily capable of decapitating, dismembering, and mutilating 67 armed adult kendo masters with his bare fists, to the point where Muzan mistook him for a Demon.

Limitless Endurance and Stamina: Akaza has limitless stamina and vitality, never tiring and always remaining in peak physical and mental condition, as well as the ability to withstand waves of the onslaught as if they were nothing. Akaza’s hand was split in half by Kyojuro Rengoku’s Flame Breathing: Second Form – Rising Scorching Sun in the Mugen Train Arc, but he seemed unconcerned about it, even complimenting his katana.

This happened when Kyojuro released Flame Breathing: Ninth Form – Rengoku; this time, he suffered injuries to his arm, head, and upper torso. Akaza is also one of the few people who has survived Tanjiro Kamado’s headbutt without showing any signs of pain.

Prior to his transformation into a Demon, Akaza (Hakuji) demonstrated superhuman endurance at the age of 11 when he endured beatings that would render a grown man numb (100 beatings), earning him the title of “Demon Child.”

Immense Durability: Akaza’s body is phenomenally durable as an Upper-Rank Demon because he carries an extremely high concentration of the Demon King’s blood, Muzan Kibutsuji. Even with his katana and incredible physical strength, the Hashira struggled to cut various parts of Kyojuro Rengoku’s body during their fight. Because of his previous injuries and the piercing of his Solar Plexus, Kyojuro could only cut two-thirds of his neck before the Upper Rank escaped.

Mental Abilities

Tactical Intelligence: When it comes to unarmed and hand-to-hand combat, especially those involving martial arts, Akaza is a genius among geniuses. He’s also shown natural talent and aptitude in martial arts, such as being able to beat up on talented swordsmen and combatants from nearby dojos while still learning Keizo’s Sory Style.

Even as a child, Akaza was capable of winning battles based solely on instinct and tactical intuition. Giyu Tomioka was taken aback by Akaza’s ability to instantly evolve and adapt to any attack or technique he employs, to the point where he can predict when his opponents will strike and how to counter them with equal force.

Akaza Supernatural Abilities

Incredible Regeneration: Akaza possessed one of the series’ most amazing regenerative abilities. With little effort, he can regenerate from slash wounds inflicted by Tanjiro and Rengoku, as well as lost limbs inflicted by Giyu.

His regeneration progressed even more during his battle with Giyu and Tanjiro. He can survive even after having his head cut off and then regenerate a new one, a feat that only Muzan had previously accomplished.

Enhanced Senses: Like all Upper-Rank Demons, Akaza has sensory abilities that are far beyond what humans have. This was demonstrated several times, such as when he was able to sense the caliber of his opponents simply by glancing at them, as he did with Kyojuro Rengoku.

Fighting Style

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: As a human and a demon, Akaza’s most notable ability is his supernatural skill in unarmed combat. Akaza has demonstrated his prodigious abilities in various forms of close-ranged combat even before transforming into a demon, being able to intuitively create his own fighting style that was shown to completely lay waste to several grown men at the age of 11. He could annihilate 67 adult kendo masters with just his fists when he was 18 years old.

This ability was further enhanced after he became a demon, to the point where he could fight at subsonic speeds while fully utilizing his martial arts skills for both offense and defense. When combined with his Blood Demon Art, every single one of his blows and strikes becomes incredibly lethal, making him unrivaled in unarmed combat and martial arts prowess.

Soryū Style: When he lived with Keizo and looked after Koyuki, he taught him Sory Style, a bare-fisted martial arts style. It was the main inspiration for his Destructive Death Style, which he used when he became Akaza, and he used it to kill 67 kendo masters with ease.

Bell Crusher: A technique inspired or created by the Sory Style in which Akaza strikes a sword from the side as it descends to easily break it.

Quotes

  • (To Giyu Tomioka) “Elegant!! That’s a developed sword technique! Wonderful! State your name! What is your name?! I want to remember it!”
  • (When Muzan Kibutsuji forcefully turns him into a Demon) “Don’t… care… anymore. I don’t care… about… anything.”
  • (To Koyuki) “Forgive me! Forgive me! I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you! I’m sorry I wasn’t with you when you needed me! I couldn’t keep… a single promise!! Forgive me! Please forgive me!”
  • (In regards to himself) “I became a demon and lost my memories. I wanted strength once again. Even though there wasn’t a single thing I wanted to protect. I really didn’t want to live in a world where I lost my family. For over a hundred years I committed pointless acts of carnage. It’s a horribly sad… laughable… and ridiculous story
