Being a celebrity has both advantages and disadvantages. While the benefits can include financial advancement and widespread exposure, the disadvantages can include razor-sharp criticisms and judgmental eyes.
And, like Addison Rae, if you’re a young influencer who rose to fame through social media sites like Instagram and TikTok, the criticism can be a little harsher.
Rae took her lip-syncing and acting skills from TikTok to Hollywood. He’s All That, a gender-swapped version of the 1990s classic rom-com She’s All That, was her first big movie production.
While she secured a main role as Padgett Sawyer, not everyone was pleased with her achievement, particularly her detractors, who said she got the part solely because of her celebrity. The allegations, on the other hand, were far from accurate. Tanner Buchanan, her He’s All That co-star, joined in on the debate, defending her casting.
Addison Rae Worked Really Hard and Gave her All on ‘He’s All That’
The praise for Rae’s acting from her co-stars is well-deserved, given that the Louisiana native admittedly did her best for the film. Rae participated in acting school and had special zoom sessions with her acting coach weeks before filming began. She worked on getting into character’s psyche and focusing on delivery and script study.
People had identified the 20-year-old as a social media personality, and she knew they would feel at ease seeing her in that position. As a result, she saw it as an opportunity to demonstrate her acting abilities. In July 2021, Rae told Elle, “I try to convince myself, ‘You have to work that much harder to get people to take you seriously.”
The aspiring actor also revealed the best piece of advice she’d ever received. She credited her mother for teaching her to see that she was only a person, and that she could always learn and grow from her mistakes.
On August 27, 2021, Rae’s cinematic premiere will be available on Netflix.
Tanner Buchanan was surprised about Addison Rae
In August 2021, Buchanan, who is most known for his role as Robby Keene in the television series Cobra Kai, enthused over Rae’s casting on the Just for Variety podcast. Rae went through the casting process like any other actress, the attractive actor said, adding that her TikTok celebrity had nothing to do with her selection. He recalled her sending her tapes to the casting staff and even auditioning for the part.
Everyone had to be okay with her performance, in his words, and Rae did an incredible job dazzling folks. “She worked hard,” the 22-year-old continued. Buchanan talked about his experience working with the social media star after gushing about the casting process. Buchanan said that Rae knew all of her lines better than he did, and that she was at the top of her game.
He also commended his co-star, claiming that due of her professionalism, people would think Rae had been acting for years.
