They talked again in February 2006, which was two months before she disappeared. When the police found Reeves, she had been hit in the head, had broken her neck, and was not breathing. But the police began looking into why Samson Shelton was arrested.
Samson was charged with trying to kill someone and given a 20-year prison sentence in 2007. “Left for Dead,” a book about her life, made her well-known. Also, the movie “Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story” shows Ashley’s struggles in real life. As such, it is based on the amazing true story of a normal teenage girl who came close to dying three times: first in the woods, then in the hospital, and finally in court.
Why the attack happened
In the movie “Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story,” Sam tries to get Reeves out of the car when it’s clear that she thinks they made a mistake by getting close. Sam tricked Reeves into coming to his house by saying he had an upset stomach. Once there, they got close.
Sam’s talks with the police, on the other hand, showed that he needed to end the relationship. But Reeves said it wasn’t true as he tried to get her out of the car. So, to get Ashley out of the car, he put his hands around her neck and squeezed.
And when she lost consciousness, he knew he had her neck. During the chaos, he also dragged her into the woods, strangled her with his belt, and choked her with his hands. Sam then left her dead and buried her with trash and leaves in the woods. Sam, on the other hand, got away from the noise after the crime and went dancing.
After a 12-hour investigation, during which Sam changed his story several times, he was found guilty. But when his grandmother was brought up, he fell to his knees and had to say it.
Then he led the police to Reeves’ body, which was found in Citizens Park, just 12 minutes from Ashley’s house. Also, Reeves was found 30 hours after she was attacked. She was unconscious and badly hurt, but she was still breathing.
What happened to the person who did the wrong, Samson Shelton?
Even though Sam admitted to the crime, he was quickly let out on bail and put under house arrest. But just before his trial was to start, he called 911 from his home to say he was trying to kill himself. Sam took a mix of prescription drugs and alcohol that could have killed him.
A handwritten “do not resuscitate” sign was also written on his chest. As EMTs came to get Sam, he allegedly ran at them, spat on them, and hit them. He also said things about people of different races and caused trouble in the hospital. A district judge also said that he was worried about his mental health.
In 2007, he finally agreed to a plea deal that Ashley’s family and the District Attorney’s Office had already agreed to. So, this person was found guilty of trying to kill someone in the first degree and given a 20-year prison sentence. When given the chance, he refused to talk to the court or even apologize to the person he hurt. This criminal is still locked up at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, which is a medium-security prison.
