Jon Bernthal and his wife Erin Angle married in 2010. But it’s unlikely that the wedding would have taken place if it hadn’t been for musician Willie Nelson. The Walking Dead star was at a pub when he overheard his friends talking to two women, so he joined them and hung out with them until he met his future wife.
Bernthal told Men’s Health, “I had never seen somebody so lovely.” He struck up a friendship with a young nurse at Georgetown University Hospital, and the two soon began dating.
Angle dumped him and relocated to San Francisco after he “done a bunch of terrible stuff” as a young ignorant 20-something. The actor would drive up to the Bay Area and leave flowers and poems on her car in an attempt to win her back.
Finally, when Angle’s rage had subsided, he escorted her to the Fillmore to watch Nelson. Backstage, the actor slipped away, leaving a message for the musician detailing his relationship with his wife and requesting that he play ‘Always on My Mind’ for him and Angle.
Nelson, fortunately, did, and they reunited that night for good.
Jon Bernthal’s Family and His Wife
Before marrying, Bernthal and his wife dated for several years. They married and raised a family after that. In August 2011, the couple welcomed their first child, a son called Henry.
In January 2013, they welcomed their second son, Billy, and their daughter, Adeline, almost two years later. Bernthal landed a role in Ryan Gosling’s film First Man shortly after their daughter was born. However, he dropped out of the project. The actor later spoke up about his decision in an interview with Men’s Health. His daughter experienced an unanticipated seizure and fell into a coma, which was later determined to be due to encephalitis.
Three days later, Adeline awoke, but she didn’t recognize her family or friends. Bernthal’s partner replied by “pouring love into [their] daughter every step of the way,” according to Bernthal. He thanked his wife with rescuing the family from the adversity.
The actor told the tabloid, “People talk about bravery like phony macho bravery, but my wife didn’t flinch.” His daughter, thankfully, has recovered from the incident.
Jon Bernthal discusses juggling work and family life
Bernthal’s schedule is obviously hard as a married man with three children. During an interview with Insider, the actor said that he adhered to one guideline in order to reconcile his rigorous work schedule with family time.
He made certain that he was entirely focused on whatever he was doing. When he was at home with the kids, he didn’t work or use his phone. At work, though, he gave it his all in the hopes that his children would see how hard he worked.
“I try to throw myself into it 100 percent and stay in it,” the actor added. “At the end of the day, I’m trying to construct something in every character I help develop and every movie I’m in.”
He went on to say that every piece of work he produced was labeled with the names of his children. As a result, he took everything seriously and offered everything he had. Bernthal, on the other hand, admitted that all of this was made possible by his wife’s efforts.
