JK Rowling explains how the Deathly Hallows symbol came to be
Author JK Rowling unveils the symbol’s deeper meaning in the BBC documentary Harry Potter: a History of Magic.
Three legendary Harry Potter relics are represented by the Deathly Hallows symbol—a vertical line and circle encircled by a triangle—the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility. It was thought that anyone who had all three would be immortal.
Rowling was watching Sean Connery and Michael Caine in the Rudyard Kipling adaptation The Man Who Would Be King. She feels a Masonic sign shown in the film was unconsciously inspired by the Deathly Hallows emblem.
The Masonic sign is made up of a triangular shape made up of stonemason’s tools, a square, and a set of compasses. But how could she be so certain that they’re linked?
She was sketching Professor Sprout, the Hogwarts herbology teacher, on the night she was watching the movie. Rowling received a call the next day informing her of her mother’s death.
When Rowling went back to re-watch the film, she was taken aback by the startling resemblance between the Masonic emblem and the Deathly Hallows symbol. Her subconscious, she believes, was linked to the symbol in the film. I have a feeling they are connected on some deep subconscious level. Loss is a major theme in the Harry Potter novels. I believe the stories would have been different if my mum hadn’t died.

The Deathly Hallows Symbol’s Importance
The magical artifact not only made a wizard powerful and immortal, but it also played a crucial role in the Harry Potter universe’s story. Harry had to die in order for a piece of Voldemort’s soul within him to die as well, in order to put an end to Voldemort’s reign of terror.
Rowling, on the other hand, had different ideas. She developed the Deathly Hallows to allow Harry Potter, the main character, to die for a short time.
It was a way for the author to keep the hero alive long enough to complete his self-sacrifice quest. Death was beaten by Harry as the Master of Death, and fans all across the world rejoiced.
