In his freshman year of college, comedian Tom Segura went to a party where he was exposed to narcotics and ended up in the hospital department.
Tom Segura never fails to relate this important story of how being overweight saved his life in the most funny way possible, despite the fact that it is nearly two decades old. In his Comedy Central show This Is Not Happening, he told this story in the most adorable and empathetic way possible.
After a taste of collegiate life, the 2 Bears 1 Cave co-host returned home for Thanksgiving in 1997. He was at a reunion party with his high school buddies when he was hooked on liquid ecstasy by one of them. Segura claimed that the only reason he swallowed too much of it was because he didn’t want to appear stupid or amateurish. It all comes down to the fact that he overdosed on narcotics in order to be courteous.
He also stated on the show that the medication he was taking, GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate), is lethal when taken with alcohol, and that he had already had too many shots of vodka.
The quirky comedian stated earnestly that he had no recollection of passing out, but that he had been transported to the emergency hospital. After a coma, he awoke to the sight of his disgruntled parents and a few physicians.
Even in that state, Segura, being the comic that he is, joked about using heroin when asked what drug he was on.
When he visited the doctor who had saved his life, he was told that he was overweight because the amount of drugs and alcohol he had in his system would have killed him instantly if he hadn’t been overweight.
Moving on to his weight loss journey, it began in 2017 as a challenge with comic Bert Kreischer, co-host of his podcast 2 Bears 1 Cave. It all started on Joe Rogan’s show, with the loser having to pay for the winner’s trip to any location he wanted. The loser was also required to shave his beard, which neither of them desired.
Segura’s weight loss journey has been a rough one, as we’ve watched him swing from fat to skinny, then back to obese. He has gained some weight recently. However, in 2018, he lost a few pounds and discussed it with H3 Podcast. He expressed satisfaction with the changes in himself.
To lose weight, the host of the Completely Normal show abstained from sweet foods for months and worked out with his trainer four times a week. He also did boxing and put in a lot of work in the gym. Segura merely wanted to be in shape because he was gaining weight and was aware of the dangers of being overweight.
