Demi Lovato might have been turned down. She invited Canadian actress Emily Hampshire, who is best known for her part in the hit comedy program Schitt’s Creek, to their most recent edition of the podcast 4D With Demi Lovato. The two discussed coming to terms with their gender identities and coming out.
Emily Hampshire’s First Public Appearance
Hampshire also recounted how she discovered her true identity on Schitt’s Creek throughout the episode. Since its premiere in 2015, the sitcom has been lauded for its efforts to promote LGBTQ acceptance. Viewers and critics alike have praised Dan Levy’s portrayal of David, who is attracted to anyone regardless of gender identity. Hampshire revealed the following during her revelation:
Dan was adamant from the start: “There will be no homophobia on Schitt’s Creek.” It simply does not exist in that location.”
Hampshire said that the iconic wine sequence from the episode, in which David explains his gender orientation to Stevie (Hampshire) while talking wine, actually helped her figure out her own identity. She was astonished to discover about David’s orientation, even though she was well-versed in LGBTQ+ issues.
This new information caused her to reconsider her own identity, and it took her nearly five years to figure out who she was. She was seeing someone at the time, and there were message boards where people wondered if she was lesbian. This prompted her to inquire about Levy’s gender identity, but she stated that she was unconcerned about where someone fit on the gender continuum because she had simply fallen in love with a person.
When Levy was asked if she was omni-gendered, she stated that she was. Hampshire was so aware of her gender identity from that point on.
Deal Breaker by Emily Hampshire
The actress made a shocking discovery about the vocalist of “Skyscraper” roughly 34 minutes into their talk. Lovato sneaked into her DMs and invited her out on a date, she revealed.
“Hey girl, I like you on the show,” you remarked. We should get together sometime.” “And by kick it, I mean go on a date,” you added below it. I think you’re attractive, whatever that means.”

The actress, 40, then went on to say that she appreciated Lovato’s directness in asking her out on a date because she was unsure what “kick it” meant and was looking it up. She then joked that the two of them were a decade apart in age, which could explain why she turned down Lovato’s approaches. But Lovato reacted by comparing her to Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor, a couple with a 32-year age difference. Then, realizing they had unintentionally likened Hampshire to Taylor, who was 38 years older, Lovato attempted to rescue face by clarifying that this was not what they intended.
Hampshire, on the other hand, found the scenario amusing and agreed that she was proud to be Taylor. Of course, the two did not begin a romance, but it appears that they have begun a lovely friendship.
