The director of 2016’s Suicide Squad, David Ayer, has revealed that the screenplay leaks circulating on Twitter were genuine all along.
The confirmation led many to believe that, similar to 2017’s Justice League, the studio intervened to restrict fans from seeing the director’s initial vision for the film. Fans from all around the world had been clamoring for Ayer’s version of the anti-hero story to be released. Thanks to the publication of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League and James Gunn’s subsequent sequel to Suicide Squad, their campaign has gained traction in recent months.
Not only has Ayer been supportive of the release of the director’s cut of Suicide Squad, but he has also been supportive of the release of the director’s cut of Suicide Squad. The studio version was allegedly changed so much that Ayer refused to take credit for his work on it.
The Rumors About It Being Re-Cut Turned Out To Be True
There have long been suspicions that Ayer’s version of Suicide Squad was re-cut in a frenzy following the negative reception to Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had just been released six months before.
The initial Suicide Squad was essentially a rumor until Ayer confirmed it, having been heavily altered to present a much lighter tone. He even confirmed that the disclosures on @RTAyerCutSS’s Twitter account were accurate.
As #ReleaseTheAyerCut grew in popularity on social media, many stills of Ayer’s planned cut began to circulate. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn kissing Will Smith’s Deadshot was one of the most popular clips. Ayer stated in a tweet from his Twitter account that not only was the script altered, but that most of the sequences had also been filmed.
Ayer’s cut allegedly saw Diablo survive and the Joker have significantly darker scenes with harsher humor, in addition to Quinn and Deadshot’s evident relationship finding expression.
David Ayer Has Refused Ownership of ‘Suicide Squad’ And Has Taken Matters on Twitter
Ayer wrote an emotional message on Twitter in July 2021, taking three pages to describe where he came from. He talked about his difficult background, his time serving in the military, and other difficulties that led him to where he was now.
He claimed that the Suicide Squad film was inspired by something that spoke to him. He also insisted that the film he had made was a fully mature edit with typical character arcs, fantastic performances, and a strong third-act conclusion.

He also stated that he would not give up on his film’s vision. He closed his letter by praising Gunn’s efforts on the current Suicide Squad film, as well as Warner Bros. in general. Naturally, his tweet was well-received by both fans and coworkers.
In a nutshell, both fans and Ayer are hoping for a Suicide Squad director’s cut. Will the studio, on the other hand, budge? Is #ReleaseTheAyerCut going to be as popular as #ReleaseTheSnyderCut? We’ll take your estimate as good as ours!
