However, McLaughlin began her writing career while still a college student by contributing to The Daily Californian. In 2003, Erin was given the chance to serve as an intern and eventually joined CNN San Francisco. She then began working as a researcher for CNN Atlanta in 2004 before relocating to London to work as an international CNN journalist.
Her experience working for CNN shaped the person she is today. She covered terror attacks, such as the 2015 Paris attacks, the 2015 Brussels bombing, and the 2016 Berlin assaults, with her outstanding reporter agility.
