The Croatian would then make just 12 appearances in his first season because he needed more time to mature and adjust. Vida had however pleased his management enough to earn a starting spot the next year.
And that’s exactly what happened, solidifying the excellent center-back’s place in the starting 11. For example, Vida played 22 games for the team, starting nearly all of them.
Domagoj then stayed with the team for an additional two years before joining Bundesliga powerhouse Bayer Leverkusen.
The Croatian international has played 95 games for Osijek at the time of his transfer, scoring six goals and providing four assists.
Domagoj signed a €3 million contract with Bayer Leverkusen, a Bundesliga team, on April 29, 2010, after leaving Osijek. The Croatian center then appeared to have made it to the major leagues, but it was not to be.
As an example, Vida only made nine appearances the entire season. In reality, the 32-year-old was only able to make one replacement appearance in the Bundesliga.

The subsequent season with Dinamo ended up being maybe the worst of his professional career. For instance, Domagoj played in only 28 games this season because of the fights he got into throughout the season.
